WDR R22 Serial Reader with Scanner

The Worth Data R22 Serial Bar Code Reader attach to any computer or device with an RS-232 serial port including UNIX Terminals, ASCII Terminals, Dumb Terminals, laptops, cash registers, and most micro and mini computers.

If you need more than one bar code reader on a computer, you can also attach up to 32 WDR Readers to a single COM port. We have special software for Windows® that allows the units to be polled, thus collecting data from each unit as needed. This works well for shop floor tracking applications where a computer is not needed but bar code scanning is.

Any ASCII serial terminal that is operating in character mode can have the WDR R22 bar code reader act as a 2nd keyboard. The R22 reader attaches between the host cable and the terminal. Any data scanned by the user is entered into the system as keyed data.

The WDR R22 starts at only $299 and is available with many options listed below.

  WDR R22 Details

Serial Wedge Attachment
For multi-user computers that use Linux, UNIX, PICK, etc., the WDR Reader attaches between the host and the terminal using a serial "Y" cable, transmitting data as though it has been keyed. Any ASCII serial terminal that is operating in character mode can have the bar code reader act as a 2nd keyboard. The bar code reader attaches between the host cable and the terminal. Simply unplug the serial cable from the multi-user terminal and plug it into one end of the Serial "Y" cable coming from the WDR. Then, plug the other end of the serial "Y" cable directly into the terminal. When data is keyed or wanded, the data is transmitted to the host computer which echoes the data back through the WDR reader to the terminal's screen; bar codes appear to have been keyed.

Multiple Readers per Computer
If you need more than one bar code reader on a computer, you can attach up to 32 WDR Readers by RS-232 daisy-chaining. A program in the host computer polls each reader, setup with its configurable ID Character. The reader sends back any data preceded by its ID. PortKey for Windows includes a configurable polling program.

Bar code types supported
Include UPC/EAN, UCC-EAN 128, Code 39, Full ASCII Code 39, Code 128, Codabar, MSI Plessey, GS1 DataBar, GS1 Data Bar Omni and Stacked variants (RSS-14), ITF Interleaved 2 of 5, Standard 2 of 5, Bookland EAN, and Code 93.

The WDR is a RS-232 output reader - if you need a reader to attach to a standard PC, a computer running Windows®, or a Macintosh®, take a look at our Keyboard Readers instead since they require no software to run on a PC. The WDR R22 is great for Ascii Terminals, older systems or software that require RS-232 input, and attachment to special systems with scales etc...

WDR R22 with Wand
The WDR wand configuration is the most popular and the least expensive serial device we sell. The stainless steel wand has a 10 ft. coiled cord, and is the best in the industry. A slot badge scanner, laser scanner, or magstripe scanner can be used or added as an upgrade later. Complete with power supply, stainless steel wand or slot Badge Scanner, wand holder, and choice of cable(s) the price starts at $299.

WDR R22 with LZ160 Laser Scanner
WDR with LZ160The undecoded LZ160 Laser Scanner is a great value - with a 10" range when scanning a typical UPC code, it also reads codes very fast with a 48 scan per second laser engine, plus it costs only a little more than a wand scanner! This new laser scanner is our entry level gun scanner manufactured by us in order to maintain the high quality our customers expect. The LZ160 laser scanner with WDR R22 decoder box and choice of serial cables starts at only $378!

WDR R22 with Laser
The R22 decoder box can also accommodate our more powerful laser scanners - the Worth Data LZ360 and LZ400 laser scanners.  Both of these scanners use a Symbol Scan Engine, which has a lifetime scan element warranty. These scanners are extremely rugged and very aggressive, reading a typical medium density bar code up to 18" away, while scanning 36 times per second until a "good read" occurs; making reading instantaneous. The 10 ft. coiled cable survives 1,000,000 bends. Since we manufacture the Lasers and Decoder we can turn around repairs in 24 hours. Complete R22 decoder with cable, power supply, laser holder, and LZ360 Laser scanner the price is $448.

Cordless Models Too!
Step up to our cordless RF Laser - the LZ400 RF Laser offers wireless scanning with a range of up to 500 ft. and serial output!
