  700 RF Terminal FAQ's

These are the most frequently-asked questions concerning our RF Terminals. If you still can't find what you are looking for, email us with your question or pick up the phone and give us a call at 800-345-4220!

Is your terminal 802.11 compatible?

The 700 RF Terminal system is not, but the 802 RF Terminal is!

What is the range going through walls?

The quoted 3000 ft. range for the 700 RF Terminal system is line-of-sight. The more walls to go through, the less range. Solid metal walls can be impenetrable. If you are going to operate in separate rooms with several walls (or one metal wall) separating the room from the Base Station, you will probably need one or more Relays connected by twisted pair wiring back to the Base Station.

Is range restricted by tall racks?

While there is no absolute rule, as long as the warehouse is open (with no walls separating the areas), coverage is attained, even with the older models that had 1/3 the range of the current model.

Can the B551 Base Station be located outside?

No, but you can place the Base Station on an outside wall inside the building and connect an high gain outside antenna outside connected to the Base Station by a short coax cable. This will also give you a 5x range improvement.

Do I have to locate the B551 Base Station on the ceiling and in the center of my floor plan?

No, the range is so good, you can probably have it sitting on a desk in a corner and still get the range you need. You could also use a high gain antenna coax connected to the Base to extend the range significantly (3+ miles line of sight).

Can I really have 64 terminals operating simultaneously on one B551 Base Station?

The number of terminals that can simultaneously operate on one Base Station with good response time is dependent on the rate at which you are scanning on each terminal. If you are going to be scanning every 1-2 seconds on every terminal, you need to limit the number of terminals to 16. If you are going to use the RF terminal at the industry's typical transaction rate, (one transaction every 8 seconds), your response time can still be very good with 64 terminals attached to one Base Station.
